GoRemoteGoRemote Internet Communications, Inc. is a leading provider of secure, managed virtual business network services, enabling customers to achieve best-of-breed network security and to increase critical business application performance, while reducing capital and operating expenses associated with their network. GoRemote provides a comprehensive portfolio of secure, managed virtual business network solutions for retail and branch office environments, teleworkers/home offices and mobile workforces. Founded in 1994, GoRemote (formerly known as GRIC) developed the first global aggregated dial network and global Internet roaming service. GoRemote also developed the first delivery methodology for virtual business networks using the public Internet. The GoRemote Global Network includes more than 55,000 wired and wireless access points in more than 150 countries. GoRemote was acquired by its leading competitor iPass in February 2006.
IndustryThe definition of “remote worker” has many meanings and has evolved significantly in its scope over the years and employees wear different hats on different days working from different locations—including customer facilities, partner locations and public facilities. The remote trend is occurring in all major vertical markets, including retail, professional/financial services, government, healthcare and insurance. The one constant in all this is the need for secure, reliable connections to keep employees productive—regardless of their work locations. In the retail industry, the need is driven directly by contemporary retail point-of-sale (POS), inventory, and centralized customer database applications that require persistent, high-bandwidth network connections as opposed to dial-up. With the expansion of broadband connectivity across the country and globe, many retailers are choosing to migrate to managed broadband IP virtual private networks (VPNs), new high-performance networks that have the bandwidth and flexibility to cost-effectively run these advanced applications. A properly managed broadband IP VPN rollout not only delivers new benefits, but some companies have witnessed up to 70 percent remote access savings thanks to a broadband IP VPN upgrade. Done improperly, without proper tools and expertise, retailers can face delays, cost overruns and faulty operation.
